Women’s pictures of the 1980s

For the Independent Cinema Office’s The Cinema of Ideas platform I am programming some screenings of 1980s British films with working-class heroines. The first film is Mai Zetterling’s Scrubbers (1982), which is streaming now until 2 December. On 24 November I will be hosting a Q&A with the film’s costume designer Susannah Buxton, and I wrote an essay to accompany teh screening also: Women’s pictures of the 1980s: Scrubbers and the spirit of resilience in Thatcher’s Britain.
